ART & SCIENCE
I immerse myself in the complexity of the research, ideas and data by conversing intimately with the scientists to fully dive into their ideas. The information – so new to me as an artist and not as a scientifically trained researcher – has been complex and chaotic to begin with. It is through the sharing of ideas that I have begun to visualize an artwork, and the seed is sown in my mind. Gradually, the thoughts turn over through the coils of my mind, unwind and the seed, germinates and grows, intuitively I feel how the artwork will form and evolve and cognition feels like branching of trees. My creative process essentially involved refining that chaos, and distilling it into an elegant artistic response.
From 2012 I merged Art and Science through through my personal work and commissions by academic departments in Wales and England such as University College London’s for the 'Cosmoparticle' Initiative, 'Infinite LIGO Dreams' with Cardiff School of Physics and Astronomy and 'New Signals' project for Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC).
Through paintings, videos, and multimedia art I have explored concepts ranging from a variety of scientific fields: particle physics, cosmology, dark matter, gravitational waves, and most recently, neuroscientific research. I seek to engage in cutting edge-ideas that benefited from artistic exploration and responses. My work has been published in CERN courier and Physics World., CCQ, and a wide variety of academic and institutional blogs.
I work through a mixture of mediums; video, audio, watercolour, acrylic, collage, sketching, two-handed (bi-lateral) pen and ink drawing, digital art, video, and oil on canvas.
My Art & Science creative process essentially takes scientific research and distils it into an artistic response that grows from within, I am, in essence, a cathode to the inspirational catalyst of cutting-edge science.
The practice of merging Art and Science has influenced my personal work in many ways, from the physics of the mind to the fabric of the universe. It continues to so everyday. It is an exciting part my artistic career that re-emerges in unexpected way in my personal work and up coming exhibitions.
The next of which will be at the New Cardiff University Student Life Centre, July 2023 for a project call ASTROART ORIGINS see my recent NEWS blog to find out more....

COSMOPARTICLE and special memories of Sir David Attenborough...
On April 17th 2018, I was very honoured to meet Sir David Attenborough.
I had been invited to the opening ceremony of newly refurbished Kathleen Lonsdale Building. This was due to having recently completed a commission for the part of the building in the ‘Cosmoparticle Initiative Hub’. A large painting aptly titled ‘Cosmoparticle’ which is now residing on permanent display in the hub. The painting explores and celebrates elements explored by the Hub of Cosmic Microwave Background, Dark Matter, Particle Physics, the cosmic evolution from the beginning of time to now and research regarding Weakly Interacting Massive Particles WIMPS sought out by the Large Underground Xenon experiment ‘LUX’. It was no small feat and it had taken 5 months to complete. I had been asked to provide a short talks to the tours that followed the ceremony. To share my thoughts and interpretations of the research that had been provided by enchanting and engaging, Prof. Hiranya Peiris, Prof. Andrew Pontzen and Prof. Chamkaur Ghag with regards to the Cosmoparticle painting. One of the tours included Sir David Attenborough and the Son of Kathleen Lonsdale, Stephen Lonsdale who commented ‘you can keep looking and looking into the painting and see more and more in it’. |
