Highland Cow
This is one of the first videos I made at the begining of lockdown Last year. The Highland project was the last one I demostrated to my learners in a Venue almost one year ago today, its the 15th March 2021 (at time of writting this). What a year it has been!
The Highland cow is sketched out first with basic shapes of over laying blocks corresponding to the main body masses, head, chest/shoulders, body and rump. Creating a good sketch built up from basic structures helps to form the outline of the body shape we are look for. The Highland Cow is painted with wet in wet layers of Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Raw Sienna and Cadmium Yellow. Dry brush details is add with a Rigger Brush on top of dried layers. Then the painting is built up from the back of the scene - sky, distance land and foreground of the land with wet in wet washes. After which white gouache is used to bring detail into the dry grass beneath our lovely Highland Cow.
