Dr. Dan Read at The Clink lunching with me for a interesting discussion about art, science and magnetism and enjoying exquisite mouth watering food. Yum! read more click here... Around 2007 found myself questioning visual responses to the world through the brain's processes, due to, migraines that have caused my vision and my body to do some very strange things. Though out my life jagged pulsing brightly coloured flashing structures would take over my perception of the world, this would be the first sign of a migraine that would lead to days of pain and confusion through out my whole self, occasionally weakening the right side of my body to the point of temporary paralyses. A few years ago I was recommend by my GP to have a Magnetic Resonance imaging (MRi) scan (my first). The scan results come through and nothing conclusive or particularly untoward was wrong, thank goodness! Although migraines are terrible the experience left me wondering what is this visual disturbance where is it happening in my mind, what part of the brain is creating the jagged mess? I began to become very interested in my scan unfortunately I did not get to see the images and the diagnoses did not make much sense to me nevertheless this did influence the next body of work.... 'Toward abstraction' began in 2008 it is an attempt to reflect upon the experiences of migraines, to use it to describe the world through it. With geometric references and bright compositions I created a body of work that directly led my way to ask the question what do our thoughts looks like? how do they work? what is the structure? I have since discovered these questions can not be easily answered however imagining and abstracting the ideas on to paper and canvases is an obsession that is expanding into fields of cutting science and technology that is mind blowing.
