'Infinite LIGO dreams' will be unveiled tomorrow 25th Nov 4-6pm at event the celebrate opening of the new coffee area in Cardiff Physics department. The painting will a be new addition to the to adorn the walls along to join three other paintings inspired by my time spent in Dr. Dan Read's Lab back in 2014.

On the 24th February 2016 I was in the new coffee area at the Cardiff School of Physic and Astronomy. I had created 3 paintings regarding Dr. Dan Read's work concerning magnetism.
These paintings where beginning hung up on the wall of the new coffee area and whilst I was there I was introduced to Prof. Mark Hannam.  He spoke of the new discovery of Gravitational Waves from LIGO. We discussed that it would be fantastic to create an art work to celebrate this momentous event in our history.  In the following weeks a meeting was arranged with Chris North and Edward Fauchon-Jones along with Jason Charles Roger our sound engineer. We decided that I would produce a large oil painting reflecting some of the data mixed in with imagination of our galaxy's binary black holes, pulsars, neutron stars and other elements of space. Coupled with this we created a video/audio piece integrating the development of the painting and data provided by the university along with raw audio recordings and predictions of the Gravitational Wave signals. Jason and I worked together to produce the music on the video combining the raw audio with 'spoken word' narrations about the new discovery and beats to tie all the visual and audio together.

I am inspired by the sheer over welcoming immensity of this discovery that proves general relativity.  It is difficult to grasp how important it is to know our actual coordinates in this vast expansive space and all that influences our path through it. This data proves without a doubt that the equations work beautifully; binary black hole mergers exist and now we have found the first, LIGO shortly found another and when it is switched on again (which it may be already) I am sure there will be a influx of amazing new discoveries matching up with the predictions established from general relativity and our galaxy will show its self to be teaming with binary black holes, pulsars spinning into each other black holes swallowing up neutrons starts just as there are in the painting I created imagining the  data as visible waves and structures in the immensity of this our diverse and busy universe.

The project was completed  within 3 months during the Summer 2016. It, the painting has been waiting eagerly for its new home in the Gallery Coffee Area in the Physics department where it shall be unveiled on the 25th November 2016 between 4-6pm along with video, speeches and drinks.
