The Gate in Roath, Cardiff was originally a church building: it has been transformed into centre of arts, theatre, dance, music and exhibits artists throughout the year. On 4th December, the Cowley and Davies exhibition opens. Come to enjoy a glass of wine and meet the artists, from 6.30pm. The collection features two Cardiff artists who have been exhibiting together for a number of years, exploring the empirical, the ethereal and consciousness. If you’re looking for unique affordable art work, this is the perfect place to come.
Penelope Rose Cowley merges new perspectives in contemporary sciences with traditional drawing and oil on canvas. She finds inspiration in the neurosciences and asymmetrical mathematical patterns of infinity and merges her observations with memories, the figure and dreams. She is based in her studio in Cyncoed, Cardiff. This year Penelope has been mentored in figurative art by esteemed welsh artist Harry Holland and artist Jac Saorsa of The Broadway Drawing School.
Penelope is collaborating with Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre CUBRIC and will soon be embarking on a touring exhibition throughout the UK called ‘ew Signals’ to celebrate CUBRIC’s new neuroimaging facility, which will house some of the best equipment in the world for understanding the mind. This show will see the first of the artworks for 'New Signals', an observational painting of the 40 ton 7 Tesla MRi being caned into the new 44m building.
Jessica Davies is exhibiting a selection of her surrealist artwork: a variety of colourful paintings. Jessica lives and works in the Llandaff area of Cardiff. Jess captures her imagination on canvas and the result is a transporting atmosphere, a natural magic and an unusual gentleness. Jess also takes on a variety of commissions to create unique portraits.
