Touring the UK from MARCH 2016
Public Engagement through Art Exhibitions for CUBRIC2
The key idea is that due to CUBRIC having labs all over the
country as investigators on the project the aim is to engage with
local museums /art galleries to host the New Signals Brain Art
exhibitions for the local public and investigators. Each artist
will generates a set of pieces be toured around the country as
a combined set at 6 locations: Manchester,
Oxford, Nottingham, London, Sussex, Cardiff.

New signals Artists

Shardcore
Eric Drass is an artist and curator who makes work in a
range of media, from painting, to digital installation, to
generative experiments which live on the net. Some of his
favourite themes are identity, consciousness, the philosophical
ramifications of artificial intelligence, big data and the
relationship between humans and machines. Sometimes this
work is political, frequently it is playful, often it is provocative
or transgressive in some way. His works are frequently
reported and cited online (BoingBoing, b3ta, Imperica, Computer
Arts and Wikipedia etc.)
Eric holds a degree in Philosophy and Psychology (Oxford)
and an unfinished PhD in Cognitive Psycholinguistics (also
Oxford). He is co-author on a number of patents dealing
with PRISM-type surveillance technologies (long before
PRISM became public), and a number of academic papers
relating to neural network models of language acquisition
and heritability.
He also used to be a singer in an experimental hardcore
band, an unsuccessful male model, and once took at dotcom
1.0 company from a bedroom project to 14 countries
and back, spending $50m on the way. Twenty years ago he
was a TV star in America, but he doesn’t like to talk about
it.

Lee Wright
Lee Wright is an artist who works in various, mainly traditional,
two-dimensional media. He is best known for his lino
prints, etchings and oil paintings. Lee’s work is most often
representational landscapes or portraits. Lee’s oil paintings are
created using techniques handed down from the masters such
as Rembrandt.
Lee come from a science background, having studied mathematics
at Warwick University. He went on to run a successful
IT business in London. In 2009 Lee moved away from the
world of IT to become a full time artist in the Brecon Beacons
in South Wales. In 2014 Lee established an art school and studios
in a converted Victorian school in the Brecon Beacons.

Penelope Rose Cowley
I am based in The Cyncoed Fine Art Studio - which is actually
my humble shed at the bottom of the garden. I am an
artist and curator combining music, art, spoken word and
fashion in Galleries, venues and public houses for the last 5
years in Cardiff.
My style is dynamic, characterized by constant change
as my interests develop and as my abilities continue to
evolve. Each body of work is full of drawings, paintings and
mix media and continues to develop like a tree with many
branches growing and growing making strong each bough
as each years turn. I am inspired the structure of thoughts
within our minds and influenced greatly by natures irrational
fraction, Phi - The Golden Ratio.
Dr. Silvia de Santis and Prof. Derek Jones of Cardiff University
Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC) gave me
a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan of my brain
in June 2012 in order for me to explore artistically. I have
used the results of the MRi scan to further recreate my
mind and be inspired by the images created by Diffusion
Tensor imaging that have derived from the MRi scan results.
Which have been exhibited at the last 3 Cardiff Science
Festivals, the National Museum of Wales and West
Wharf Gallery, Cardiff.
